Ordering Continence Products Through the NDIS: A Practical Guide for Participants and Carers
Published by Biofast on 19th Oct 2026
If you or someone you care for uses continence products, ordering through the NDIS can feel confusing at first. The good news is that the process is straightforward once you know how your plan is managed. This guide explains the three plan management types, how ordering works for each, and what to check before you buy. Funding for any product depends on the participant's own NDIS plan and NDIS requirements, so confirm details with your plan manager, support coordinator or the NDIS.
Are continence products covered by the NDIS?
Many everyday disability-related items, including continence products, wound care and low-cost assistive technology, can be funded from a participant's Consumables budget. Some items need written advice from a health professional first. What is covered depends on the individual plan, so check your plan or ask your support coordinator if you are unsure.
How your plan is managed changes how you order
| Plan type | How ordering works |
|---|---|
| Self-managed | You pay as normal by card or PayPal, keep the tax invoice, and claim the cost back through the myNDIS app or portal. |
| Plan-managed | The supplier invoices your plan manager. At checkout you give your NDIS number and your plan manager's email, and the order is dispatched once the invoice is approved. |
| Agency-managed (NDIA-managed) | You can only use registered NDIS providers. The provider checks your funding, dispatches the order and claims payment from the NDIA. |
Not sure which applies to you? Check your plan, ask your support coordinator, or ring your supplier and ask.
What to check before you order
- Your plan's funding category. Confirm continence products are included and there is enough remaining in the budget.
- Health professional advice. A continence nurse or other health professional can recommend the right product type and absorbency, and some funding needs written advice.
- Size and absorbency. The wrong size or absorbency is the most common reason people reorder. Check the manufacturer's size chart.
- Regular delivery. If usage is steady, a monthly delivery avoids last-minute orders and gaps.
- Registered provider. Agency-managed plans need a registered NDIS provider; plan-managed and self-managed participants can choose any supplier, subject to plan rules.
Not on the NDIS? Other funding may help
The Australian Government's Continence Aids Payment Scheme (CAPS) is a yearly, non-taxable payment to help with the cost of incontinence products. To be eligible you must be 5 or older, have permanent and severe incontinence confirmed by a registered health professional, and meet residency requirements. Check current rules with Services Australia.

Frequently asked questions

Only if you self-manage your plan. Plan-managed orders are invoiced to your plan manager, and agency-managed orders are claimed from the NDIA by a registered provider.
Can a carer or support worker order continence supplies for me?
Yes. BIOFAST lets carers and support workers place orders and keeps them updated on the order.
Can I set up regular continence deliveries?
