Syringes: Luer lock, Luer slip and catheter tip

Luer lock syringes thread onto the needle hub and stay attached under pressure, which is why they are the default for injections, flushing and anything delivered with force. Luer slip syringes push on and pull off quickly, suiting drawing up, decanting and irrigation. Sizes run from 1mL through 2mL, 3mL, 5mL, 10mL and 20mL, with 60mL catheter tip syringes for enteral feeding, bladder irrigation and wound flushing. BD, Terumo and MDevices are all stocked, supplied sterile and single use.

Hypodermic and drawing up needles

Hypodermic needles are stocked in the standard clinical gauges and lengths, including 18G drawing up needles with a blunt fill tip, and finer 23G, 25G and 30G needles for intradermal and subcutaneous work. Needle hubs follow the ISO 6009 colour code — 22G black, 23G blue, 25G orange, 30G yellow — so ordering by colour matches ordering by gauge. Terumo Agani and TSK STERiJECT ultra fine needles are both available.

Insulin syringes and pen needles

For insulin, BD Ultra-Fine syringes come in 0.3mL, 0.5mL and 1mL barrels with a fixed 29G needle, graduated in units rather than millilitres. Pen needles for insulin pens are stocked in 4mm, 5mm, 6mm and 8mm lengths, including Unifine Pentips, Pentips Plus and SafeControl safety pen needles, usually in boxes of 100. Shorter 4mm and 5mm needles are the most commonly ordered lengths for adult and paediatric use alike.

Blood collection

BD Vacutainer blood collection needles, single use holders and Luer-Lok access devices are available in bulk boxes for pathology collection rooms and occupational health screening.

Oral and enteral syringes

Medicina ENFit syringes, oral tip syringes, low dose syringes, milk straws and medicine bottle adapters are stocked for enteral feeding and oral dosing. ENFit is the ISO 80369-3 connector standard, designed so an enteral syringe cannot be connected to an intravenous line. Single use and reusable versions are both listed, with low dose syringes down to 0.5mL for accurate paediatric dosing.

Safety devices and sharps

Safety engineered products including BD Eclipse shielded needles, AutoShield and retractable insulin pens are stocked for sites working to a needlestick prevention policy.
