What is in a basic pack

A basic dressing pack usually includes a sterile field or drape, a tray, gauze or non-woven swabs or cotton balls, and forceps. Some include a waste bag or a laminated towel. Pack contents vary by brand and type, so check the contents list on each product before ordering for a set procedure.

Choosing between packs

The main differences are the swab type (gauze, non-woven or cotton balls), whether forceps are plastic or metal, and whether the tray has compartments. A&E packs carry more for larger or emergency dressings. Ordering by the carton lowers the unit cost for clinics that use packs every day.
