Most practices start from the work the couch has to do. Physiotherapy rooms generally want a three section physio couch with an adjustable backrest and breathing hole. Chiropractic practices use purpose built chiropractic tables, available here in fixed height and premium versions. Podiatry rooms use a multipurpose chair that reclines from seated to flat. Gynaecology rooms need a couch with the right leg positioning and a premium option with added adjustment. Cardiology uses a two section couch suited to ECG and stress testing. Neurological rehabilitation uses a Bobath couch, which is wider and lower than a standard plinth so a therapist can work from either side and a patient can transfer safely. Veterinary clinics are covered by a dedicated lift table.
The section count describes how many independently adjustable parts the top is divided into. A two section couch adjusts the head or backrest only and suits examination and ECG work. A three section couch adds a leg section and is the general purpose choice for physio, massage and treatment rooms. A five section couch gives the finest control over patient positioning, and is available with or without postural drainage, which allows the couch to tilt head down for respiratory physiotherapy.
Fixed height couches are the most economical and the most stable, and suit a room where the same clinician works all day. Height adjustable couches matter where staff of different heights share a room, where patients have limited mobility and need a low transfer height, or where a clinician needs to raise the patient to protect their own back over a full caseload. All electric models adjust height and sections from a foot or hand control without the clinician letting go of the patient.

Free standing couches are listed with and without drawers, which keeps consumables at the bedside in a small room. Upholstery on these couches is a wipeable vinyl intended to be cleaned between patients with a neutral detergent or a compatible disinfectant wipe. Check the manufacturer guidance before using alcohol or chlorine based products regularly, as these can shorten the life of the covering.
