Dispensers

Hand hygiene dispensers

A dispenser is only useful where the work happens. Hand Hygiene Australia frames clinical hand hygiene around five moments, two of which occur at the patient, so sanitiser needs to be within arm reach of the bed or chair rather than only at the door or the sink. In practice that means a wall unit at the point of care, a second at the entry and a bench or pocket option for mobile staff. Soap dispensers belong at every sink, paper towel immediately beside it.

Cartridge or bulk fill

Cartridge systems such as GOJO ADX-7, PURELL ES4 and the Microshield 1.5 litre wall dispensers take a sealed refill that is swapped as a unit. Nothing is poured, nothing is topped up, and a fresh pump comes with every refill, which removes the contamination risk that comes with refilling an open reservoir. Bulk fill dispensers are cheaper to run per litre and suit lower risk settings such as workshops, offices and amenities blocks. In clinical areas, sealed cartridges are the safer default.

Elbow operated and touch free

Elbow operated wall dispensers, including the Microshield elbow unit, let a clinician dispense with a forearm when hands are already contaminated or gloved, and are the usual choice at scrub and procedure sinks. Standard push dispensers suit general areas where a second hand contact before drying is not a concern.

Paper towel dispensers

Interleaved paper towel dispensers such as the Caprice and Dolphy Plaza Ultraslim units present one sheet at a time, which controls consumption and means the next user only touches the sheet they take. Jumbo versions hold a larger stack for high traffic washrooms. Check the sheet size your current towel uses before changing dispenser, since interleaved stacks are not interchangeable across all brands.

Glove dispensers

Single tier and triple tier glove box holders are available in clear acrylic and in white powder coat, wall mounted to keep boxes off the bench and out of splash zones. Triple tier units hold small, medium and large side by side, which is what most treatment rooms need so staff are not tempted into the wrong size. Clear acrylic makes the remaining stock visible at a glance.
