Inactivated Vi polysaccharide typhoid vaccine for active immunisation of adults and children ≥2 years who are travelling to, or working in, typhoid-risk settings. Supplied as a single-dose 0.5 mL prefilled syringe for intramuscular (IM) use. S4 — Prescription Only Medicine.

Indication & age: Prevention of typhoid fever due to Salmonella Typhi in persons ≥2 years. Does not protect against S. Paratyphi A/B or non-typhoidal Salmonella.

Dose & schedule: Single 0.5 mL IM dose (deltoid preferred). Revaccinate every 3 years if ongoing risk. Single-use only; discard remainder.

Composition (per 0.5 mL): 25 micrograms purified Vi capsular polysaccharide (Ty2 strain) in isotonic buffer with phenol (preservative).

Storage: Keep refrigerated 2–8 °C. Do not freeze. Protect from light. Shelf life 36 months at 2–8 °C.
